Enough Snow to Shovel (First Time This Year)

The forecasters are saying that we're in for a heavy snow year this year.

We've had occasional flurries since October and have had a couple of snows that actually covered the lawn and stuck around for a couple of days. In both cases, any pavement retained enough heat to melt the snow immediately.

We weren't expecting any snow this week. In fact, we've been planning to spend a couple of days in Boston and, after studying the forecasts, picked the warmest, clearest, most snow free days that we could find. We'll be spending tomorrow night in Boston.

Naturally, we woke up this morning to an unexpected couple of inches of snow (this time on the pavement as well since it's been colder). It's stopped now after snowing most of the day. It's supposed to be clear tomorrow and then start back up tomorrow evening and snow all day Wednesday.

This was the first time this year that we've had to clear the driveway. It wasn't enough to get the blower out so Kristen and I just got out the shovels and made quick work of it. We salted the driveway when we were done and that was enough to keep any additional snow from building up. I did have to go out and reshovel the end of the driveway once after the plow went by.

Here's a few pictures:

I still have a lot of work to do to clear my multi-flora roses but you can see that it's been cleared quite a ways back from the creek at the edge of the lawn.

You couldn't see these rocks before. Now it's cleared most of the way to the rock wall on the property line (just visible through the trees.

We've been keeping our bird feeders full. We've been surprised at the number of birds that don't migrate. We had a bunch of cardinals at the feeder today.
